Vehicles in German Town Found Smeared with Swastikas in Human Blood, Police Report

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Police
Officers reported they were alerted by a individual who discovered a vehicle in Hanau covered with red-colored fluid

Roughly 50 automobiles have been covered with what seems to be human blood in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.

Automobiles, building surfaces and postal boxes were defaced, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they stated in a release.

Officers report they were contacted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored liquid.

The fluid had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.

Police then found many other marked automobiles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.

Swastikas are banned in Germany under regulations banning the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.

Police state early analysis indicate the liquid was likely human blood.

"Currently there is no clue as to its origin; officials are presently not informed of any injuries in association with the event," they added.

Local authorities said they were attempting "to solve the mystery" and have appealed to the community for tips.

An important official stated the incident left him without words and needed to be resolved quickly.

"This act affects the center of Hanau and revives the trauma of the extremist terrorist attack half a decade ago," he wrote on social media, referring to the killing of nine people by a gunman focusing on individuals of foreign heritage in five years prior.
